Bastard Pop

Dictionaraoke is not a piece of software, but a website dedicated to a particular way of misusing specific software, which also contains a collection of the results of this misuse. The idea is very simple - both in terms of its concept and realization. You are supposed to pick a pop song, run its lyrics through an online dictionary equipped with a text-to-speech engine, record the result, and combine it with a midi file of the same song. As a result you will get a strange bastardized version of the song in which all the lyrics are sang (spoken) by "professional" artificial voices. It produces a strong humorous effect, but also lets us reflect once again on how "multi-media is killing media", as somebody neatly pointed out. The interesting thing about Dictionaroke is that it can be classified as a software tool for making music, although it's only a guide to (mis)using existing pieces of software. And it works! The authors have presented their idea to the Internet audience, who have responded to the challenge with enthusiasm.
