Batmemes
Grasshopper Enterprises

Batmemes is marketed as software for algorithmically tackling writer's block. It uses algorithms inspired by the thought-generating experiments of the Oulipo movement, which took place in France in the 1960's. Batmeme's configuration options allow you to highly customize your auto-generated ideas. For example, you might choose to tint your new thoughts with shades of batDNA from Bram Stoker's Dracula or the complete works of Poe. Or you might choose meme generation based not on the Oulipo method, but on synonyms, for a Babelfish-esque mind-expanding experience. The author calls Batmemes "the creative process on steroids."

First published in 1994 for Windows 3.1, Batmemes is now available in version 2 for Win 98/ME/NT/2000/XP (although the original version is also still flapping around on the web and seems to work reasonably well on contemporary Windows systems.)
