Lego for a Meta-Theory of Meta-Art-Forms
Andreas Leo Findeisen

Full title: (Mostly WestEastern-European Theoretical Blabla-) Lego for a Meta-Theory of Meta-Art-Forms

Author: The history of ideas consists of THEORIES, about the psychology of the human imagination or the functions of the brain, about the nature of human work, about the development of religious and secular world -views, about the fall and decline of indian or european culture, about the interaction between people and machines, about the interaction between women and men, about the generation of space and power etc.

So every theory can to some degree be characterized by its main subject, its volatile and solid attributes of change-in-time, its methods of how to interact with the others, etc. If SOFTWARE in terms of its perspectives for artistic /liberating potentials is to become a theoryґs main theme, constituent theoretical layers as the theory of history, the theory of information, the theory of labour and culture, the theory of (absolute / relational/ etc.) asthetics and last but not least gender theories are experiencing reconstellations.

During the last year I have had the chance to discuss and share with several artists and writers who in my eyes could already be called іsoftware-philosophersІ. Another striking feature of these discussions were the deep gaps in the intellectual landscapes of french / german / anglo-american / eastern perceptions of theory and social / factual significance.

This text explains in abstracts which theoreticians (+ of which historical phase, cultural contexts, methodological schools, gender, lifestyle) I would find relevant to be included into a first set of "Legos for a Meta-Theory of Meta-Artforms" and why I think so. These includes Heinz von Foerster, Gotthart Gunther, George Spencer-Brown, Humberto Maturana and Niklas Luhmann on the one hand, Edmund Husserl, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Peter Sloterdijk on the other hand.

This essay was written for Read_Me Software Art and Cultures conference and is published in read_me Software Art & Cultures Edition 2004 .
