Rtuk Ali Miharbi Rtuk is a Firefox add-on which enables anonymous users to "censor" any text on any web page. The name is inspired by RTÜK, "Radio and Television Supreme Council" in Turkey and how several governments in the world work on controlling the Internet as if it were a centralized TV broadcast. It's also an analogy of bottom-up censorship (such as Internet users submitting URL's that they find inappropriate to government's web sites) and destructive participation.
Users select a portion of the text on any web page and black it out. The information is automatically stored in a central server, and a connection is made each time any other user enters the censored page or enables the add-on, so that they see an updated, erased version on the Internet, shaped by all Rtuk users anonymously.
